Ministries > Educator Sunday :

Brief History

Since 1985, Christian Educators Association International has encouraged congregations in America to set aside one Sunday each September as EDUCATORS SUNDAY, an event to recognize and honor public school educators who are making a positive impact on lives they touch. Most who serve in education view their profession as a calling by God upon their lives. Recognition could include administrators, teachers and support staff (librarians, bus drivers, school nurses and school board members.)

Purpose

To mobilize congregations and local communities to recognize, affirm, celebrate and support public school educators on the Sunday before the fourth Wednesday of each September.

Goals

  • Focus attention on educators during a regularly scheduled service or community event by celebrating their importance and contributions.
  • Encourage worship communities to seize the numerous opportunities for positive involvement in public education.
  • Feature testimonials of and by educators who have had a positive influence in the lives of students, parents and fellow staff members.
  • Pray for and commission educators for service in the classroom and local school.

Action

This September, Educators Sunday will be Sunday, September 23, 2007. Now is a good time to TALK TO LEADERS and BRING MATERIALS that CEAI publishes to cast a vision in this endeavor. We encourage those seeking to participate in this national observance to CONTACT:
