2011 NEA Resolution I-17 states:
“The National Education Association supports family planning, including the right to reproductive freedom1.
The Association urges the government to give high priority to making available all methods of family planning to women and men unable to take advantage of private facilities2.
The Association also urges the implementation of community-operated, school-based family planning clinics3 that will provide intensive counseling by trained personnel.”
1) The term ‘Reproductive Freedom’ is commonly used to represent many methods of controlling birth, including abortion 2) This statement refers to taxpayer funded abortion 3) These clinics are commonly referred to, in schools, as family resource centers
If schools were to abide by this NEA resolution, NEA members' dues support a pro-abortion agendathe guidance provided by schools to pregnant girls would include abortion. Many state’s legislatures have statutes in place to exclude abortion counseling from their schools, keeping the NEA’s position from being implemented.
In the NEA annual 2009 and 2010 Representative Assembly, an amendment was proposed for the NEA to take a neutral stand on abortion. In both years, this amendment was not approved. |
