Dear Governor,

We represent the Mission America Public Schools Ministries Coalition. Our coalition represents a group of organizations and ministries that have been brought together to serve Christ as we serve our public school community. Together we serve more than 100,000 churches, 400,000 educators, and communicate with local associations of Christian leaders in more than 2,000 local communities. We are humbly requesting a Governor’s proclamation proclaiming the month of September as “IAM4Schools month.”

In a recent speech Education Secretary Rod Paige discussed the problem of “our education system not performing at a level adequate to sustain our nation's global leadership.” He noted that this “problem will hurt every part of our nation every year if we fail to solve it. Instead of improving education to create the twenty-first-century workforce, we have been relying on the education other countries provide to their citizens. Some see this as a problem for our schools to fix. They are only partially right. Others see it as a problem for our government to fix. But the problem is broader than that too. It is an American problem. A problem that must become the concern of every caring American citizen. It is a problem for all of us to fix.”

The students who sit in our classrooms today represent the hope and future of our nation. IAM4Schools month would mobilize concerned citizens to accept responsibility and take action towards the Department of Education’s goal of “excellence in education.” Using our God-given talents and resources along with our faith-based values, we will encourage, support and serve the public school community in constitutionally appropriate ways at the invitation of Education Secretary Rod Paige. It is our desire that we encourage meaningful relationships and ensure that no school or child is left behind.

Our schools, students and educators, are committed to preparing and ensuring that the United States of America is equipped with educated, responsible and capable citizens who will be ready to serve as our future leaders and decision makers. IAM4Schools month will be a call for all concerned citizens to seek avenues of opportunity to serve their local schools and actively reach out and participate throughout the year. As individuals, communities and a nation, we must demonstrate to our students that they are valued. We hope that our children will value us in the future and we can only send this message by serving them through their schools today. We are diligently providing resources and information through our website, IAM4Schools.com in order to equip and empower all who want to make a positive impact in our public schools.
