Violence Prevention Week - City Takes a Stand Against Violence
in Schools
I AM 4 Schools.com -
Violence Prevention Week, which
is hosted by Christian Fellowship Center, L.I.F.E. (Laborers
In the Field of Education), and
IAm4Schools is a concept that began in Brownsville and in it’s
first year gained national recognition. The goals of VPW are
to promote a safe and non-violent environment in our schools
and community. The school district has set aside this week
to speak to every student about the dangers of bullying and
how to prevent violence in their schools.
This year’s guest speaker is Dave Roever, a Vietnam
veteran who was burned beyond recognition when a grenade exploded
in his face. He has spoken in front of over 7 million students
and many students say their lives have changed. “ I unequivocally
endorse Mr. Roever as the most powerful speaker you can have
for your student body, “said Brian Wolf, a principal
for over 20 years. “Dave’s ability to impact a
teenager’s heart and mind is unmatched.” Roever
will speak to every high school student in assemblies scheduled
at all five Brownsville schools.
Other events during the week include
a Friday night youth rally and a Saturday morning breakfast
for educators and city,
state, and federal public officials. If you would like to help
in our city’s Violence Prevention Week or would like
more information about the week’s event please call Christian
