TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL
Prayer: Pray to the Lord asking Him to lead each of us into the plans He has for our lives. May the Lord guide the leaders of Christian Educators so that we will have success encouraging educators and that this will be a great year for God’s work in our nation’s schools.
Straight Ahead
Scripture: Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go. Joshua 1:7 NASB
Happy New Year! I am a firm believer in setting goals for the year. These are not New Year’s resolutions to be tossed aside before January 30. These are prayer-supported, godly goals that pertain to your personal life, spiritual life, family life, and career.
There are many reasons to set goals. For example, how will you get where you are going if you do not know where you are going? Goals help bring about positive change as the quote goes, “If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you are getting.” Goals help us to focus on God’s purpose for our lives and keep us on the straight path. Without goals we are easily pulled to the left and right with all of life’s distractions. Goals help us prioritize the many responsibilities, opportunities, and activities that come our way.
One of my favorite sayings is, “If the devil can’t make you bad, he’ll make you busy.” Being too busy keeps us from accomplishing God’s purposes. We fill our calendars with stuff that replaces significant divine appointments. Our energy is drained far before our to-do list is completed each week. Of course we must write our goals down. The chance of accomplishing these goals is significantly higher if we just write them down and put them somewhere so that we see them often.
The world is beckoning for your time. God has many wonderful plans for you this year. Who will you follow? Please pray over and write down your goals during the next week and share them with at least one other person in your prayer group or family.
My prayers for you this week are that God would give you a clear vision of the goals you should pursue this year and that you would walk straight ahead and have success wherever you go.
