TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL

Prayer: Ask the Lord to renew us this day with His joy and peace and purpose. Remember to praise Him.

Restore Me

Scripture:The Lord is my Shepherd…He makes me lie down in green pastures…He restores my soul. Psalm 23:1-3

Not even Calgon™ could “take me away” these days. A warm bath helped ease the pain in my legs, feet and back, but it did little to take off the pressure during these long days of mid-year. Everyone seemed on edge at school, tired of the routine, preoccupied with just getting the job done. Even the principal, who usually loved fun in learning, had retreated into her office in a kind of gray mood.

Besides considering all the natural means of helping myself recover - a shopping spree, a night out with friends, a long quiet weekend, even a full night’s sleep (which I wasn’t getting), I knew that there had to be a better way to survive. It was then that the Lord showed me clearly, that I needed to look to Him instead of every other place. I read the words, “HE restores my soul.” Clearly He often uses common things to do His work, but He is the Source we should go to first.

If you suffer from mid-year burn-out, remember Whose you are and Whom you serve. It is He who has called you, and He will sustain you and restore you. Let His wonderful power so energize you that everything you do at school bears the imprint of His freshness and new life. Let His presence “take you away” from all that burdens you, so that you can be fully restored and ready for service to Him.
