TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL
Prayer: Dearest Lord, I want to love others today as You have loved me. I ask for Your help today to be patient and kind. Thank You for being with me. Amen.
Loving Service To Others
Scripture: For even I, the Son of Man, came here not to be served but to serve others, and to give My life as a ransom for many. Mark 10:45NLT
Jesus told the disciples this one day when He overheard them fussing about who was greater than whom. His example had always been, and His will for us all has always been that we have a loving concern for the needs of others-- beyond that which we hold in concern about our self.
Think of His teaching on the great commandment: He said to Love God first, then to love others at least as much as we love ourselves. Think of His compassion upon those who continually pressed in upon Him for their needs-- He met them. And then He commissioned the disciples and us to continue meeting such needs in others. In the process, He directed us to make them into disciples by teaching them everything that the Lord has command us. What was His primary command? It was to love one another. It all comes back to love-- that great caring about others, doing what is in their best interests, regardless of our own needs.
Got a boss that gets on your nerves? Love with Christ's love. Got a student that drives you 'up a wall with his or her behavior and problems? Love with the love of Jesus and teach with the patience that God can give you. Is there a co-worker that makes you crazy? Serve that one with the faithfulness of a servant in love. Are things not going well for your career in the decisions made by others concerning your hopes and dreams? Let go of all that and embrace love where God has planted you.
I pray this week will be one in which the love of God takes on new meaning for you.
