TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL

Prayer: Please remind me to be gentle today.

Gentleness

Scripture: Do not let your adornment be merely outward …rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God."1 Peter 3:3-4

Sometimes it can be very hard to have a gentle spirit, especially if we are frustrated and burned out. We are often faced with the urge to raise our voices or even yell.

Did you know there is an island where trees are killed by yelling at them and it works! They believe that yelling kills the spirit of the tree and that causes it to die. This is also true for the human spirit.

Yelling at someone doesn't mean they will hear you any better. In fact, it is a human defense to tune out loudness.

What are some other ways we can get a point across or obtain attention? Can you think of a time when you appreciated someone else's gentleness? How can each of us carryout the attribute of gentleness in our daily environment (classroom, hallways, meetings, cafeteria, office, etc.)?
