Daily Devotional – Summer of Seeking

By June 15, 2016Daily Devotionals

Prayer:  My prayer for you is that “the Lord bless you and keep you, may He make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you;  The Lord lift up His countenance on you, And give you peace.” Amen

Scripture: Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23 Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? 27 “Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! 29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.” Luke 12:22-31 NIV

The school year is quickly coming to a close and this will be the final devotional for the year. I know that many of you still have a few weeks left in school, while others started the year in early August. Please continue to pray, the end of the year can be very busy and stressful… all the more reason to continue to  pray.

I pray that this year has been a year of growth for all of you. I pray that your faith has grown and your prayer life has flourished. I pray that you have made it a practice to praise and thank God in all your prayers. I pray that you have studied His Word, turning the information into application and allowing for transformation. There is so much more to prayer than just asking God to do things and give us stuff. We come humbly to His throne remembering that He lovingly tells us to ask Him for what we need. He first wants us to seek Him; to know Him, to know His character, His attributes, His will, His Word, His promises, His love and more. We call this, “Seeking His face.” It is about respect and relationship; it humbles and strengthens us at the same time. When you know your Father is the Sovereign, Supreme King and Creator of all that exists and that He loves you beyond anything you could ever comprehend, your find peace, joy, rest. Worry fades as faith flourishes.

I am sure that God has shown Himself faithful to you this year. I know that He answered your prayers; protected you, provided for you, sustained you in pain and lifted you up in victory. Now I pray that you would spend the summer growing the prayer habits He has begun in you. I pray that you would spend your summer making Him your priority and waking each day  to new lessons and opportunities to see His Kingdom come and will be done, in your life as it is in heaven.
