FREE GIFT

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for sending Your one and only perfect Son to be the greatest gift I’ve ever needed in my whole life.  Please show me how to share Jesus with someone this year.  Thank You.

Scripture: For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 NASB

Christmas shopping can be tons of fun or make you feel like you’ve been hit by a ton of bricks.

I like to buy “the perfect gift,” so I shop for Christmas year-round. The problem is come December I usually cannot remember where one or two of the gifts are. The dilemma is to buy something they want or something they need? Will it last or break before Christmas dinner? Will it get used or tossed in a closet? Then there are the financial decisions. Can we afford it? Is it worth it?  Will it hold its value over time?

Once we decide what to buy, we have to go find it – well, first we have to find a parking space. Then, we get to search, knowing it will be a miracle if we do not have to wait in a very long, slow line to pay for it.

Sorry if I sound a little “Bah-humbug-ish.” That is why I shop January through November. Holiday shopping in December is not for me, but others LOVE it. My sister-in-law lives to shop with the crowds the day after Thanksgiving. Bargains galore! Door busters and special sale prices that get people out of bed at 5:00 a.m. to shop ‘til they drop!

God gave the one true Christmas gift to us. His gift encompasses all that we think of when we want to give a gift – no matter what our shopping preference. His gift was something we really needed more than anything else, a Savior. He knew that we could never be good enough or sacrifice enough offerings to even begin to restore us to Him. So He sent His one and only Son as a pure and holy sacrifice to show us how to love and live and then to suffer on our behalf.

THE Christmas gift is a free gift, the gift of eternal life given to you by Jesus. It will not break, fade, or go out of style.  You do not have to wait in long lines for it, or spend money that you don’t have. God has already credited your account with the blood of His Son Jesus. It is for anyone and everyone, all they have to do is ask. Tell all your friends! Share with everyone that you meet! His love, grace and mercy are not in short supply.

My prayer for you this season is that you would share THE Christmas gift. Take the opportunity to share Jesus and His free gift of eternal life.
