Prayer: Lord we ask Your help as we seek to serve You this new year.
Scripture: “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed–not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence–continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” Philippians 2:12-13 NIV
Welcome to a new year. I pray you had a delightful Christmas and have now begun a “Happy New Year.” After holiday dinners and Christmas sweets you may have been thinking about starting or resuming a workout session. I like the person who said, “I exercise religiously. Every morning I sit up and pray for strength.” See now, many of you were exercising religiously and did not know it!
Seriously, how else can we work out our salvation? Exercise faith. Bend your knees in prayer often. Run in such a way as to get the prize (1Cor. 9:24). Walk with God. Remain flexible in ways that God can use you. Lift one another up in prayer, and lift your voices in praise. Stay focused on Christ. I am sure you can think of some others, but at least I have given you the beginnings of a great daily workout.
We serve a living Lord, so it is important for there to be sign of life throughout our salvation. Salvation is not the end. It is the beginning, the beginning of our eternity. Work out your salvation as God works through you according to His will and good purposes. We all know that God is working in us and through us all the time. As we yield to His ways, we progress in our spiritual maturing. The New Year is a time for many people to make decisions to change and improve. If you are working towards a new goal, share it with some Christian friends so that they might pray for your strength and success.
