UNITED WE STAND

Prayer: Lord, help us to be united and stand.

Scripture: And knowing their thoughts Jesus said to them, “Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and any city or house divided against itself will not stand. Matthew 12:25 NAS

As members of the body of Christ, God calls us to unity in Him. We are to align our hearts and purpose with His; knowing our gratification comes when He is glorified.

Division is not just a subject we deal with in math class. As a matter of fact, it is a difficult subject that we have to deal with almost on a daily basis. Traditions, opinions, theology, philosophy and personality all come into play in any relationship, workplace, church, team etc. These can bring about great strength and camaraderie when people are like-minded or seek a common goal with an appreciation and respect for one another. Unfortunately, they can also tear people apart. Personal agendas, preferences, selfishness, pride, arrogance, and other sin, destroy relationships, families, schools, churches, businesses, communities and a nation. You and I have seen it time and time again, it is painful, it is dangerous and never glorifying.

It is very important that educators share common goals and work in a collaborative environment. Communication, shared goals, and a dedicated heart for what is best for the student is a must if we are to be effective educators perpetuating successful students in a flourishing workplace. Unfortunately, we know this is not always the case. What are some things that cause division in schools? What are the consequences of division within a school? Who suffers the most?

The student’s suffer the most. When we get swept into disagreements, differences of opinions, goals, and are even put into positions where we have to campaign or fight to keep our jobs; the students suffer. The attention, emotions, energy, and conflict spill over into our hallways and classrooms and into our teaching. Don’t let Satan convince you that you are good at keeping conflict out of your class. I hear from dozens of student’s each week, of all ages and schools, who can tell me all about the “drama” going on with the teachers and staff at their schools; everything from personal family stuff to fighting between teachers. They know in great detail who has said what, the confrontations, the gossip between staff about others, and so on.

Division surrounds us. Discuss and make a plan now of how you will be steadfast in unity during times of adversity in your school and then pray God’s protection for your group and school.
