UNDERSTAND WHAT THE LORD WANTS YOU TO DO

Prayer: Dear Lord, I want to hear from You today and make thoughtful decisions. I ask You to guide my thinking and deciding. Thank You, Lord. I want to honor You today. Amen.

Scripture: Don’t act thoughtlessly, but try to understand what the Lord wants you to do. Ephesians 5:17 NLT

So many times in our lives we are confronted with ‘quick-draw’ choices that we risk getting into the quick-draw habit. We make quick-draw decisions about people, about situations, about plans, and about responses to others. Often, in my life, those ‘quick-draw’ reactions caused more trouble than they solved.

This passage reminds us that when we walk in the power of Holiness and in union with God’s Holy Spirit, we can have real deep peace– peace that allows us to make thoughtful decisions. We always have time to breathe a quick prayer and ask our Lord about the response, judgment, or action we are thinking for the next moment. God has promised to always respond.

When we WANT to do what the ‘ the Lord wants you to do’ then we can be assured that asking Him and awaiting His confirmation will always work. Most of the time, at least in my life now, I find that the urgency of the decision was not really necessary and by forcing myself to take time, a better result always happens. Funny, too, when those few truly urgent issues have come along, the instant I breathe that prayer to the Lord, I am immediately confirmed in the choice and the result is always good. We can trust our Lord in all matters!
