BE COMFORTED COMFORT OTHERS
November 8, 2019

Prayer: Thank You Lord for being with us and comforting us in the difficult trying times. Thank you for bringing the times of joy overflowing.

Scripture: He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When others are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 2 Corinthians 1:4 NLT

Difficulties sometimes come, as well as the joyous times. This is part of life for everyone. For the Christ-follower, this is also true but there is more.

There may be some difficulties that befall the believer BECAUSE he or she is committed to Christ as Lord and walks in complete obedience. Others become offended at God, at Jesus, and at The Cross of redemption. It forces them to admit they are not self-sufficient– something native human arrogance cannot permit. So, when confronted by someone who selflessly and supernaturally is walking according to the will of God, the fallen human response is to persecute, denigrate, and do anything to make that person react in a normal (fallen) human way and prove they are no different.

Jesus, our Lord, has called us to face such encounters with His love. He directs us to transfer any and all opposition, persecution, or hostility that falls upon us for being believers to be transferred to Him. And then the Lord says something shocking. He told us to love those who persecute us.

Paul points out to the Christians at Corinth that in all troubles, God actually comforts us. He equips us with a special compassion so that we can offer the same comfort we receive from the Lord, to those around us who are troubled. His love, His compassion, His peace, and His joy are designed to flow through us to others in need.  May this day be a day for you to be a channel of comfort to others around you.
