FAITHFUL IN LEAST
March 04, 2020

Prayer:  Lord help us to be faithful in each task we do no matter the size or importance.

Scripture: Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem Judah, whose name was Jesse, and who had eight sons. And the man was old, advanced in years, in the days of Saul.  The three oldest sons of Jesse had gone to follow Saul to the battle. The names of his three sons who went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, next to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah. David was the youngest. And the three oldest followed Saul. 1 Samuel 17.12-14 NKJ

With the armies on each side of the valley, the scene is tense. Saul and his men are hiding in the tent, and nobody is willing to battle the giant. Meanwhile, back in Bethlehem, a shepherd boy is taking care of his dad’s sheep.

The battle in Sochoh was very important, but none of the Israelite soldiers were being faithful. Taking care of sheep, in man’s eyes, is substantially less important. The difference, though, is that David was being faithful in his task. “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much” (Luke 16.10a).
Remember, David’s older brothers, the same that the prophet Samuel would have anointed to be king, were soldiers. They were loitering in the tent with Saul. His brothers were doing bigger things unfaithfully; David was doing the little things faithfully.

Do you want to train up giant killers? Would you plead with the Lord to use you as a tool to mold young minds and shape children who will grow up to be followers of God? That is a big job! Ask yourself, “Am I faithful in the little things?” Do you demand your children be faithful in little things? In their chores? In their prayers? In their responsibilities? He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much.
