REMEMBER THE TREE
March 24, 2020

Prayer: Father, help us to keep our eyes on You as we navigate these challenging times. Allow our roots to go deep into your Word so that our body, soul, and spirit stay healthy and strong.

How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.

Psalm 1: 1-3 NAS

As many of us are homebound and our usual activities are cut off, it is easy to fall into negative thinking and revert to sinful lifestyles. Instead we should follow the example of the tree referred to in Psalm 1:1-3 and invest extra time in delighting in the Lord and meditating on His Ways. If a tree absorbs polluted water it becomes weak and ultimately dies. If we make bad decisions in the things we do, say and think, we are polluting ourselves and spiritual weakness and death can follow.

In the freedom our Lord gives us we can choose blessings for our lives or even curses. I’m not suggesting a life of legalism, but the reality is that we will reap what we sow and if we want to “yield fruit in season, not wither, but prosper in all we do,” we must avoid the pollution our culture has to offer and choose “fresh water” to marinate in.

How we respond in crisis depends on who we follow and how we prepare ourselves. Remember The Tree and be sure we avoid wickedness and meditate on Him as we decide what we do, say, and think.
