PERFUME
April 23, 2020

Prayer: We want to be a sweet fragrance to You, Lord, today and to those You bring across our way. We worship and praise You in this moment. Amen.

Scripture: But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads in every place the fragrance that comes from knowing him. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. 2 Corinthians 2:14-15 NRSV

What a pleasure to be around her! This para-professional always wore the sweetest perfume, and it wasn’t overpowering as though she tried to cover up something. I’m sure that the children she worked with everyday enjoyed her pleasant company because everywhere she went, she carried that sweet fragrance.

The Apostle Paul reminds us that we are like that, carrying the fragrance of Christ everywhere, even in the public school. Not only are we the fragrance of Christ to everyone we meet, we are also a sweet aroma to God of the presence of Christ in us. How important then, that we carry the perfume carefully, and wear it well—not too heavy so as to offend and not too weak to be noticed.

In order to wear the fragrance, we must spend time with the Perfumer. It is His aroma we want to wear, not our own. St. Paul asks the question in the next verse, “Who is equal to such a task?” but reminds us in chapter three that “our competence comes from God.” He, our Source, will send us out with His sweet aroma.
