EXCUSES
May 19, 2020

Prayer: Please help us Lord, to make wise choices and leave immature excuses behind.  There is so much to do for You; we need Your help to not waste precious time.

Scripture: Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mold, but let God remold your minds from within, so that you may prove in practice that the plan of God for you is good, meets all his demands and moves toward the goal of true maturity.  Romans 12:2 J.B. Phillips

“Ms. Wilson, I am sorry that I flipped on Jerry and kicked Robert in his head because Robert pushed me on the floor then I flipped in the air and that is how I kicked Jerry in his face. It won’t happen again, and me and Robert wasted your time.”

I had to laugh, even though these three third grade boys were constantly in trouble and it was becoming a serious matter. Imitating super-heroes seemed to propel them into their misdeeds. They even “thought” this kind of behavior was acceptable, except maybe in class. Influences of the culture were clearly seen in the things they did and said. Becoming mature, to them, meant becoming tougher and meaner and even invincible.

God clearly wills that we as Christians not fall into the patterns of the world around us. While we may be able to see through super-hero stunts as tasteless and even dangerous entertainment, we probably have become blinded to some things that do hold an unholy influence in our lives.

When we allow God’s word to instruct us daily, and when we commit ourselves to Him in prayer, we are allowing the influence of the Holy Spirit to make us more like Jesus. We will less likely fall into the traps of the enemy who controls the culture around us, and instead be a force for good in this world.

Pray for your students that they, too, may see Jesus and desire to follow Him.
