REWARDS
May 28, 2020

Prayer: We will remember today that we are serving you Lord.  May we give extra grace to someone today.

Scripture: Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.  Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ. Colossians 3:23-24 NLT

I asked a first grade student to explain my behavioral award system to a brand new student in the class. He responded, “The much we be gooder, the much we get.” In his own way, he had captured the meaning: “The better we do, the more we get.”

Just as the children in my class enjoyed the rewards I gave for their obedience to classroom rules and for good work, teachers too benefit from recognition for their efforts. Some administrators make a habit of honoring those in their building who make outstanding contributions to their students and to the school. If this happens in your school, you should applaud this kind of thoughtful leadership.

However, even the best administrators can’t notice everything done and reward it. Many times a day selfless deeds, extraordinary effort, and truly remarkable work gets done out of the view of anyone but God. Fortunately, we who are Christians know that He sees all, and does not forget our labors, especially when we work to please Him.

Whether we have administrators who credit our good work, or whether we have those who never give us a compliment, we can be sure that God will reward us. Hear Him say to you today, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
