Prayer:   Lord, we pray that we be found faithful on election day and everyday.

Scripture: 2 Chronicles 7:14-15 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 15 Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. NIV

There are many issues being voted on: issues that are promoted and protested by churches, organizations and unions; debates are heated at best and hurtful at worst. I have been praying for truth, that God would shine His light in the dark places of politics to reveal the truth about every candidate’s heart, life, and intentions. I have prayed for wisdom, I have prayed for God to bless America more times than I can count, but the truth is I cannot ask Him to bless our mess.

Early this year, as I prayed over the election, God said to me that I should be praying over His “elect,” the church, the body of Christ, that we would repent of our own sin and quit shaking the judgmental finger at the lost. We have turned a blind eye to our own sin and forgotten that we are to love one another, not judge one another. I have ignored the sin of my own judgmental thoughts and speech and have offended away my influence in the lives of those that I was sent to see as a mission field. I am guilty and should be court-martialed for direct disobedience as a member of the lord’s army, for ignoring the Great Commission because I was too busy beating the lost over the head with my biblical beliefs rather than living a loving life of faith that reaches out to them and expresses truth in love. I stand guilty of contributing to the delinquency of this nation, I am just as guilty as those who cast their vote in the priority of greed, power, race, and any other personal, worldly agenda and not in alignment with the biblical values of my King.

I have had to humble myself and pray, seeking God’s face which requires me to turn from my wicked ways. God is not in the peripheral when I focus on myself or wicked desires, He sits at a 180 degree, polar opposite, that requires me to repent, to turn away from my selfishness and sin and turn towards Him to walk in the light of His goodness and grace once again. I cannot have a foot in both kingdoms. I either choose Satan’s earthly game or God’s Kingdom gain.

So I ask you today, to lay down your opinions and ask God to search you through and through for any hint of wickedness that He needs to deal with in you so that you can turn from them and seek Him. Pray for our Nation; pray for the Church, pray for God to be glorified in America, and pray that we would truly be, “One nation under God.” Pray that His will would be done, in this election, in America, and on earth as it is in heaven.
