SIGNS OF GROWTH
April 07, 2021

Dear Lord, We take a moment to commit our lives to grow in our relationship with You. We ask You to guide us. Thank you, Lord, Amen.

Scripture:… that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every work and increasing in the knowledge of God;…Colossians 1:10 NKJV

“See, Mrs. Wilson!” they would call out as they opened their mouths to reveal a new space. First graders always loved to show off their newest lost tooth. The school nurse, barraged by so many of these youngsters and knowing their pride in the whole process, supplied them with little “tooth necklaces” in which they could carry their latest loss. I could only guess that this experience represented their pride in “growing up.”

Once we reach adulthood, there are few indications of growth left for us, at least indications of which we are proud! However, the Bible makes it clear that God watches for the signs of growth in our Christian lives. He wants us to have spiritual wisdom, understanding, and knowledge of Him. He wants to see these character traits through a life worthy of our Lord, and through a life that does good works.

Sometimes we need to step back and look at our progress toward growing in grace. Some Christians I know chart their walk with God in a daily journal. Others work with a friend in an accountability relationship. Still others take advantage of Christian conferences to get a spiritual “shot in the arm.” Can we see growth? What are the signs? Have you purposely put away some old habits from your life and replaced them with more mature ways?

Why not use some of your devotional time before the Lord looking for the signs of growth in your life? Carefully look into the mirror of the Word of God. If you have taken the right action, you may be happily pleased with what you see!

What a sweet reminder that even as a mature believer there should be evidence of my growth.
