NOT IN VAIN
May 31, 2021

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for giving us strength and joy as we follow You to the finish line. Amen.
Scripture: As an example, brethren, of suffering and patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful. James 5:10-11 NASB

I pray that as you reach the ending of this school year, you have not had to suffer and endure as Job did. I know that you have endured many things and had your patience tested a time or two, but I hope none of you have suffered like Job.

Think back through the year. When have you been put to “the test?” Have you seen the fruits of your labor as your students learned and matured? Maybe your most trying struggles have not been with students; maybe they have been with your administration or even personal trials. Know that your pain is not in vain! As today’s verse says, “(You) have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.”

Our tests become our testimonies, and our sufferings are part of the glorification process. It is quite possible that you will not get to see a change or the finished work in your students, but you have planted seeds of change. DO NOT give up! These last few weeks are precious and they will pass by so quickly. If you have tried to put aside or even walked away from a struggle, I beg you to go back and fight the good fight.

I know you are tired. I know you are ready for summer. I know that you may feel that you do not have much more to give – but God does. When it comes from Him, and not us, it is powerful and life changing. I want to share this quote with you that I heard in a sermon at Grace church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. “When we work, we work, but when we pray – God works!”

There is still work to be done. Pray and know that all that you have endured and all that you will endure will not be in vain. My prayer for you today is that you will fight through to the end of this school year and let the Lord strengthen you.
