REMEMBERING MOTHER — THANKING GOD

Prayer: Please show us what our mothers would like for Mother’s Day and heal the hearts of those who need this. Thank You. Amen.

Scripture: Honor your father and mother, as the LORD your God commanded you. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the LORD your God will give you.  Deuteronomy 5:16 NLT

At the recent passing of my mother I’ve been remembering a lot about her. Mothers do amazing things, often with very little. We learn from our parents how to face the world. God instructed us to honor our parents while they are with us, and to honor their memories after they have gone. It is a blessing to know that one’s parents, when they have died, have gone home to be with the Lord, but their memory is still to be honored for the life that they gave you. It is God’s plan. I remember my mother as a grand lady and thank God for her often. This helps me to remember the Lord, our Grand God. None other is His equal. His love overflows us and shapes us for victory over sin and for eternity with Him.

But one of my fondest memories that has been permanently etched in my mind was when I had taken my mother out on a “date’”for dinner and a drive around her town. As I prayed for our meal together and said “Amen,” she reached over and laid her hand on mine and continued the prayer. “And thank you dear Lord for my son.” She did that on several occasions when we prayed over a meal after that. What a joy to have a mother who thanks God for giving her me– something I just had never thought of.

I pray you receive a special anointing from God today to honor your parents if they are with you, or to do something to honor their memory and glorify God if they are gone.

Thanks Dan. This helped to remind me to thank God for my mother even though it has been 38 years since she went to be with the Lord. Unfortunately, I had a somewhat Love/Hate relationship with my Mom for too many years. Thankfully, I came to my senses in my early 30s and realized that she had given me so much even during my rebellious youth and early adult years. I think most of the problem was being an only child with few other children living near us even in a crowded city like Los Angeles. However, I finally realized that she did much to overcome that situation through Cub Scouts, Vacation Bible School and piano lessons. God is so generous and we often don’t realize His Hand in our lives. May you continue to be blest in your ministry.
