VISIONARY SOULS (SOILS) PART TWO
May 27, 2021

Prayer: God, help us see ourselves and all the others around us with your eyes, not our own. Amen.

Scripture: I, the LORD, reveal myself to them in visions…. Numbers 12:6

Rodney was transferred into Lakeisha Harper’s fourth grade class at the end of the first semester. Lakeisha was always given the students who misbehaved. Her team members called her the “child whisperer.” These students often thrived in her classroom and she always gave God credit for their success. Daily, while alone, Lakeisha prayed for her students before school and continually asked God how to teach and reach them.

Rodney was a special needs child diagnosed as emotionally disturbed. He had no knowledge of his father. His mother was in prison and he was being cared for by his grandmother. He cried daily and was failing most of his classes. Rodney was a very tall, athletic child. While praying one morning for Rodney, Lakeisha received a vision from the Lord. She saw Rodney standing
next to a large black hole that he was looking into, crying. He was losing his balance and
about ready to fall in.

That same day Lakeisha privately spoke to Rodney about this vision. She looked him in the
eyes and told him. “When I think of you I see you standing by a black hole looking into it. You are losing your balance and are in danger of falling in.” Then in a commanding, authoritative voice she said, “Rodney! Turn and walk away from the hole! Turn and walk away from the hole! Your life is out here, not in the hole!” That encounter was a turning point in Rodney’s life. He moved away from the hole. In the years to come he became the MVP of a high school state basketball championship team and got a full college scholarship.

The most challenging student in Lakeisha’s career was Aaron. Aaron also was from a shattered family. When Lakeisha privately committed him to the Lord and prayed for him, all she could see was darkness around and within him. She tried every strategy to  “whisper” him to no avail. He consumed all the fruit of the Spirit in Lakeisha. She was losing her hope and patience with him.
While praying before school one morning, God gave Lakeisha a vision of Aaron. In this vision he
was forty to fifty years old. She saw him in a deliverance ministry preaching with the fire of God
on every word he spoke. God pulled back the curtain that morning and let Lakeisha see Aaron’s
hope and future.

That vision transformed Lakeisha. Her attitude toward Aaron completely changed. Peace, hope,
and patience flooded her spirit again. She now saw Aaron not as a delinquent, but as a fellow
worker for God. Daily she began telling Aaron, no matter his behaviors, “You’re a great kid. You
have an important future. You’re going to transform people’s lives in ways you can’t imagine.
You’re going to find lost people and bring them home.” Though making some improvement, Aaron didn’t become the model student that year. Thanks to the vision, however, Lakeisha became the model teacher Jesus wanted her to be: patient, hopeful, and respectful. She continually affirmed in Aaron what God created him to be.

Reflection: Do I see my students through God’s eyes? Why or why not?

Getting Real: Start each morning alone with God in prayer in His classroom or office where you work. Ask Him for His agenda and His vision of His students.
