ARE YOU GOD’S FRIEND?
October 12, 2021

Prayer: Oh Lord, we want to be good friends with You. We are honored that You loved us so much to die so that we can be friends. There is no one more important than You in my life today. Amen

Scripture: I no longer call you servants, because a master doesn’t confide in his servants. Now you are My friends, since I have told you everything the Father told Me. John 15:15 NLT

Can you imagine this? The all powerful One who created everything now calls you His friend. What is a friend? A friend is one who does what is needed to care for the other.

In my days as a school principal, I recall counseling children who came to me because they were concerned about losing friends. It was always necessary to teach them what true friendship is all about. I usually said to them “to have a friend you first must be a friend.”

But that is not what happened here. God was the one who was first our friend. God is the one who took the first step and has been a supreme Friend to us in Christ’s sacrificial atonement. The original invited friends were authorized to invite others into the ever widening circle of God’s friends. Ultimately, we were invited into that precious circle.

We have and can access God’s word any time to know what the Father told Jesus.

We can choose to respond in friendship back to God or we can ignore His magnanimous offer  — to our peril.

What about today? Are you a friend of God? Are you willing to BE a friend to God? What would that look like?

“. . . lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other’s faults because of your love. Always keep yourselves united with the Holy Spirit and bind yourselves together with peace” (Eph. 4:1-3)
