SERENADE
October 01, 2021

Prayer: Lord help us have a grateful heart and sing You songs of praise. We are grateful for the many rewards You bring us for our labors. Amen

Scripture: From the fruit of his lips a man enjoys good things. Prov. 13:2

They followed me all over the store—these two kindergartners, now on summer vacation. I had gone into the women’s clothing store and sensed some movement under the racks. Sure enough, there crouched Cassie and Leslie, to whom I had taught music last year. They were “hiding” to surprise me. Of course I enjoyed seeing them, and we exchanged greetings. However, they had only begun their surprises for me! As I moved from rack to rack, these two cute little girls followed me and sang me song after song that I had taught them in school. What fun for all of us!

While as teachers, there will never be a way for us to gain recognition or feedback about most of the things that we have taught, God has planned special little surprises for all of us to make us thankful for His gift of teaching. Sometimes it will come from a student requesting a copy of something he would like to take home to keep, or a remark from a parent about some lesson you taught that created special memories for her child. Often, those occasions go almost unnoticed.

I think that God has intended to send us rewards for our labors. Pay close attention and you will enjoy the results of your work. This becomes good medicine in discouraging times. Let the Lord cheer you and thank you for all that you do, by taking note of these special occasions. If you find it difficult to register these small “thank yous,” write them down in a journal and then go back over them when the blue days come.
