ENDURING HOPE
June 10, 2022

Scriptures: Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Romans 5:5 NKJV

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 6:19-20 NIV

Hope! This word continues to be a theme that the Lord is securing in my heart and mind lately.  True hope-–the kind that rests on Jesus and His finished work, the persevering kind of hope in Rom 8:25, the unswerving kind of hope in Heb.10:23—will never let us down. That kind of hope will always be fulfilled. It is an anticipation and expectation that is sure. It is a happy confidence that cannot be eroded by circumstances or feelings. We have this kind of hope because He has lavished His love upon our hearts by His Holy Spirit.

Not only does hope never disappoint, but it is also the anchor for our soul. The job of an anchor is to hold a boat securely in place. It digs into the seabed and becomes a stabilizer that keeps the vessel from drifting away. Drift happens so quickly and unknowingly on the sea. And oh how easy it is to drift spiritually without even realizing it! Hope in Christ connects us to our foundation in Him. It stops day to day drift and keeps us still and steady through life’s storms.

As if that were not enough, the verses above from Hebrews highlight yet another amazing benefit of hope: our confident, joyful expectation of who God is and what He is doing. It leads us right into the inner sanctuary—the most Holy place where Jesus has gone before us. We have full access to our Father when we are tethered to the Rock of our salvation by hope. We have confidence as His children that His presence is with us at all times, and we joyfully anticipate being with Him face to face for all eternity!

Prayer response: Father, thank you for the hope that I have in You today and every day.  Because of Your great love for me, I have confidence that You are always with me and I am filled with joy! I choose to stay in hope, so that I am anchored securely to You. No matter what is going on around me, I am held by You and You are in control. Thank you Jesus! Amen
