VINE ATTACHMENT
June 01, 2022

Scriptures: I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. John 15:1 NKJV
I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. John 15:5 NKJV

Jesus is a Master at word pictures and analogies that promote understanding and prompt transformation. When we read His words in the verses above, we immediately picture a beautiful grape vine, sprawling and green, with branches laden with clusters of juicy fruit. In order for those branches to produce so abundantly, they must have full access to the life giving sap from the vine. They must be fully attached! Any separation from the vine will cut off the nutrient flow and allow access to disease and decay.

Jesus wants us to thrive and grow and produce just like those healthy branches, and He makes it clear that this outcome is dependent upon our abiding attachment to Him as our Vine. But unlike a branch on a vine, we get to decide where we attach ourselves – what our life’s focus and heart source will be. We have the joy and the benefit of choosing to trust in Him alone as our Source. He calls Himself the TRUE vine for an important reason. It means that there are counterfeits out there! We have to be aware of other “vines” that give the illusion of being sources in our lives. If we put our trust in money, job, family, friends, or anything else in this physical world, we cut ourselves off from His provision and power, and we open the door to the enemy’s influence. But, when we choose to fully attach ourselves to Jesus as our only Source in life, we will bear abundant fruit that this world so desperately needs.

Prayer response: Jesus I choose to abide in You alone. I recognize You are the only Provision and Source that I need in this life. I lean in closer to You now and invite You to have Your way in my life today. I desire to produce great fruit for Your sake and for Your glory. Without You, I can do nothing, but with You, nothing is impossible! Amen

  • On the front page of our website, it reads, “Jesus Christ is the vine. We are the branches.” Lately, I have been toiling with all of the planning and decisions for our new private school. At times, it can be overwhelming. I have found myself lacking in areas that are essential for my spiritual health and relationship with Christ. And everyday, he is reminding me that He is my Source. And I know this, but my actions can sometimes prove otherwise. Trusting in thr Lord is a 100% faith walk and in this season, I am learning this all the more. And it is tough. Pray for me, lovers of Christ.
