WHAT NOW?
June 08, 2022

Prayer: Thank You Lord for reminding me I am on Your schedule. With only a few short weeks left until vacation, please help me remain focused on You and Your timetable. I trust You to accomplish what is on Your heart. Thank You. Amen

Scripture: I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten…You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God. Joel 2:25-26 NIV

We were two weeks away from the last concert of the year. With just three more rehearsals, every minute counted. Here they sat, seventy-five choir members, finally quieted and ready to begin. Suddenly, the fire alarm sounded and changed everything. Getting that many children out of the building in an orderly manner and around to the other side of the building to meet their teachers created havoc, but we managed.

Music dropped in the scuffle, and some chairs askew needed tending when we finally returned to the room. Getting all of the choristers back in their seats, folders in hand, and attention back to our work took far longer than I would have wished, but finally, here they sat, ready to sing. Over the public address system came the principal’s voice! He complimented the school on the good job we did getting out and in place in an orderly fashion. Then, to take advantage of the time, he remarked on a couple of other items he had thought to report and he was finished. And so were we, I guess. Now it seemed impossible to get the children back on task. Oh yes, we sang some of our songs, but the students’ attention to mistakes in the music, thoughtful corrections and actual practice never happened that day.

Do you fight interruptions in your day at the worst possible time? If you believe that the Lord truly blesses your work, and that He orders your steps, don’t dismay. He will make up for you the time lost. Though sometimes my students were better prepared for concerts than at other times, they always did well, and I had worried in vain. Trust your day to the Lord, and He will help you overcome all obstacles to getting the work accomplished that He has for you to do.
