NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES
April 27, 2018

Prayer: We love Your names and our prayer is that we would learn more every day about the One Who is the Name above all names.

Scripture: Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11 NIV

How long does it take you to learn every one of your student’s names? For those of you with one class of twenty to thirty students you might have them all down by the end of the first week. For those of you who teach multiple classes or even every student in the school, like music, art and PEI, I can imagine it takes a little time to learn them all.

Perhaps it is easier once you have had some of the same students or even siblings year after year. Familiarity builds relationship, and after a while you not only know their names but perhaps their parent’s names, their pet’s names, where they went on vacation, what they had for dinner last night, what their brother did to get grounded for life and so on. We start with their names and have a wealth of information about many of them by the end of the school year. If you spend several years with them you begin to feel like they are your own. With the joy of accomplishment and freedom at the end of the year there are also many tears with saying good-bye to a class.

Christ served, suffered, and sacrificed, His life as a substitution for our own, paying our sin debt in full and God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name. Not only do we know His name but over time, in a personal relationship with Him, we find out so many things about Him and His love for us.

His name should be in the forefront of our mind and heart. He is always with you, and never leaves you. I would like to encourage you to silently call on the Name above all names as you are taking your attendance each day. Begin calling the roll by thinking His name, above all name, and imagine Him answering, “Here!” It will be a great reminder to you that you are not facing this day, or these students alone.
