ONE NEEDFUL THING

Prayer: May we remember to have some time with You, O Lord, up close and intimate. We love You more than everything else.

Scripture: “‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.'” Luke 10:41-42 NIV

I love the story of Mary and Martha. Which one are you? Martha was running around trying to make sure everything was perfect for her guest. I can imagine the kitchen area in a bustle with every dish imaginable being prepared. Perhaps she was worried about the table. Was the centerpiece right for a visiting Redeemer? Did she have enough napkins? Well, you get the picture. Flipside – Mary. Mary was sitting mesmerized at Christ’s feet, soaking up every word. She probably did not even hear all of Martha’s huffs, puffs, and sighs coming from the kitchen. Oh, then to have your sister ask the Lord to scold you – ouch! Martha was busy – busy trying to do all she could to please Jesus. Mary dropped everything to hear what Christ had to say and when Jesus was asked to send Mary to the kitchen, He let Martha know that He was pleased with Mary’s choice – double ouch!

I know you are busy, possibly “worried and upset about many things.” So I am asking you to remember the one and only thing needed. Come and sit at the feet of Christ. Talk with Him; hear what He has to say to you. I promise that if you make time for God, He will make time for you. I find it amazing how much more I get done on days when I spend the most time in prayer and Bible study.
