MOVING AT THE SPEED OF CHRIST
May 2, 2018

Prayer: Oh Lord, please encourage Your people today.  May we not run ahead or lag behind.  Amen.

Scripture: But I pray to You, O LORD, in the time of Your favor; in Your great love, O God, answer me with Your sure salvation. Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters.  Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me.  Answer me, O LORD, out of the goodness of Your love; in Your great mercy turn to me. Do not hide Your face from Your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble. Psalm 69:13-17 NIV

Have you ever felt like David in this passage – sinking in deep waters, hunted by your enemies, in a pit that is closing up? I am sure as you read this many of your fellow educators across the United States are feeling this way today. We all have at one time or another. For some reason, God has blessed me with the job of comforter or counselor on many occasions. Like praying for patience, I prayed another very dangerous prayer two years ago; I asked God that whatever was being done in the dark, let it be brought to light.

I was not prepared for the overwhelming flood of sin, hurt, corruption, and distress that surfaced around me. I had no idea what I was asking for, but my advice is never pray that prayer unless you are really ready for spiritual warfare. I cannot and will not go into all that happened, but I found myself on my knees begging God to help and help QUICKLY!

As the deep waters seemed to swallow my friends and situations, I begged God for this solution or that answer, but to our dismay the troubles grew and justice seemed a hopeless prayer. Just like David in verse 13, I started out praying “In your time.” But after months of watching evil appear to win and discouragement overtake people I care about, I pleaded for God to hurry just like David did shortly in verse 17.

As a matter of fact, you will find David asking God to be quick in answering him many times throughout the Psalms. I asked God, “Why are we moving so slowly?” It was then that God spoke very clearly to me. He said, “You are moving at the speed of Christ.”

There you have it: a life motto to live by. I Googled it, searched it, called some ministry friends and the phrase is not something I have heard before or the title of a book (but I am thinking of writing it.)

If you are going through the deep waters right now or know someone who is, do not outrun Him, do not lag behind Him, and never, ever give up. I pray that you will move at the speed of Christ.

Write It! You have a wealth of experience in Christian leadership to share with others. The Devotional Today was very timely as I am overwhelmed at present as well.
“I need to be moving at the speed of Christ”, especially utilizing His prayer life as found in the Gospels as my Guide.
