WHO WILL YOU FOLLOW
September 21, 2018

Prayer: Lord help us to take up our cross daily, and follow You.

Scripture: And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. 24 “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it. 25 “For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself?” Luke 9:23-25 NAS

I heard a sports news reporter describe a certain basketball player as the, “spiritual leader of his team.” The reporter continued, “When he is having a bad game, the whole team follows and the results are disastrous!”

What thoughts does this report bring to your mind? Perhaps you are thinking of the saying, “if Mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.” Or “Happy spouse, happy house.” Others of you may be thinking about the leadership or even the office secretary in your school and the weight that their mood may carry in the building. Still others may be thinking about the power of popularity and the drama you have seen sweep through the hallways when a particular student is “having a bad day.” A few of you may be thinking of a time when you put your faith in man, (or a woman) like this team has, and they led you down the wrong path, or put you down to get to the top or kept you walking on eggshells because you never knew what mood was going to walk through the door.

We all need leaders. Leaders who are led by Christ, who use their talents and resources to help others are good. Some leaders are visionary while others work through the details; but a leader will always initiate and perpetuate the well being of the home, school, office, team or classroom that they lead. It is important for the leader/follower relationship to stay in balance. It is great to be loyal, to learn, and to respect and appreciate your leaders, but there is only One who deserves and will preserve your devoted dependence, Jesus.

Unlike this basketball player, Jesus never has a bad day. He will always lead you in the right direction and always has your best interest at heart. He knows you better than you know yourself and loves you more than you could ever imagine. He is always faithful, never fickle. He is Mighty, not moody.

Leadership is a serious matter; it should be given a lot of thought. Man will have bad plays and bad days, and no one should ever replace Christ as our ultimate leader.

I love this! I’ve had a tough week, lots of tears in the process and tears are ok- as long as you continue to lean on Jesus and continue to realize He is walking with you. As the problem starts to resolve give the glory to Him- and realize it is His doing- His blessing- not your own doing.
