GENUINE
October 11, 2018

Prayer: Please show me if there is any untruth in me, O Lord.  Show me where I am living like a hypocrite.   May I live true to You.

Scripture: But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. James 3:17 NIV

Wow! That is so pretty! Is it real? Every time that I wore the old blue cut-glass pendant to school, the children would hold it in their fingers and ask the question. Year after year, hearing the same question, I surmised that they thought I had somehow inherited the Hope Diamond. Children are always curious about reality, whether in jewelry or storybooks, or videos. They naturally seem to value the real thing.

How good it would be if Christian adults took the time to examine this theory or that educational strategy, or the newest textbook ideology for truth and genuine wisdom. So many things that we deal with seem good on the surface, and take up precious learning time for children, and costly changes to our educational systems, sometimes at the peril of those we try to teach. Christian educators need to lead the way when it comes to educational theory and practice, making sure that what a school system purports can genuinely deliver true learning experiences for kids.

As well, our lives need to reflect the reality of God’s wisdom and the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Living in the secular world tends to prove our faith, whether what we have is real or merely pretend. Often, non-Christians who work with us can see far clearer than we whether we really live for Christ in the power of His Spirit. Do we profess a life-style which we deny in our day to day living? We all need to examine ourselves in the light of God’s word, and pose the request to Him, Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24.

Profound insight! My prayer is that many of our young educators will read and heed the message presented in this devotional. Thank you again for your insight and presentation of sound Christian doctrine as well as advice.
