PONDER
October 26, 2018

Prayer: Oh yes, Lord!  We want to ponder Your wonderful gifts from Your loving hand.  Please help us make the time we really need to be refreshed in Your presence.

Scripture: Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them.
Psalm 111:2  NIV

I know with all that you have to do, and are responsible for, it is a luxury to sit and ponder anything besides what you need to get done. I have a difficult time settling into my prayer time without a notepad next to me to write down whatever creeps into my mind to distract me. Imagine my surprise when I read that your distractions are actually the things you need to pray over. If they are important enough to distract you from prayer, they need prayer. If they are Satan’s attempt to pull you away from prayer, imagine his disgust that they take you deeper into focused prayer. If during this time of pondering you get distracted, write down these “prayer requests” to share during prayer time.

For the next couple of minutes I would like for you to ponder a wonderful gift from God that delighted your heart. I will ask that we remove the top three things that we are all most thankful for: Salvation, Family (including spouse and children) and Friends. We are all thankful for those gifts. What I would like for you to focus on and share with one another is a surprise gift; something that you did not ask for nor expect. It could be an experience or opportunity. It could be something you witnessed, achieved, or received. Something that took your breath away or put a smile on your face that returns every time you think about it. It could have brought you to such great joy that you danced or jumped, or maybe it brought you to tears of joy.

My prayer for you is that you would take time to ponder and delight in His gifts.

I overheard one of my students tell another one, “This class is like a dream class.” This is from a student I am concerned about and feel like I haven’t connected with her like I want to. This comment warmed my heart. Maybe I’m making more of a difference than I realized.

Thank you for this specific devotion. I teach at a Christian school. In my classes, I had already planned to have the students write down three gifts they are thankful for and why. This devotion will help me as I lead the students to understanding God’s gifts to them. God’s timing is perfect!
    Blessings!
