GOD’S WORD AS LIVING POWER
November 15, 2018

Prayer: May this day be filled with God’s ‘living power!

Scripture: For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable Hebrews 4:12 NLT

Sometimes I hang out with friends who are theologians and Bible scholars. They work really hard to be scholarly about the scripture studying it in original languages, contrasting versions with versions, and considering layers of cultural context. But at the basis, for any of us, even my bible scholar friends, to be a person of God, we must accept by faith that the words and ideas of this one single set of writings– the Bible– is the result of Holy inspiration by God through the various persons who wrote the various documents that became accepted. This passage makes the importance of our faith in the ‘inspired word of God’ clear. The text is filled with power that is alive. It interacts with our minds and hearts whenever we read it. That is why we always encourage each other to read it often. The text of God’s word is an exposer. Many times you or I have read a familiar passage only to perceive brand new insight and application to our walk with the Lord. There is the proof! And this ‘word of God’ comes from the most awesome power ever– vs. 13 makes that perfectly clear! There are no pretenses before our Lord. He sees us as we are and loves us just the same. And, as we read His word each day He uses it to instill more of that ‘living power.’
