TRUE
November 12, 2018

Prayer:  Dearest Lord, Thank You for being faithful and true to us.  Please help us represent You well to our family, co-workers and students.

Scripture:  And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ.  This is the true God and eternal life. I John 5:20 NKJV

In a world of scams, urban legends that are being received as truth because “we read it on the internet”, video games, virtual reality and cyberspace, is it any wonder that today’s children have a hard time determining what or who is “true?”

A friend of mine who teaches fourth grade shared this story with us: “It was the last day of school, and I was really choked up as I said good-bye to my students.  I told them they all had to either shake my hand or hug me as they walked out the door.  After the first few hugs I was fighting back the tears that had filled my eyes.  Danny stood in front of me at the door and said, ‘you’re faking; you’re not for real’ and walked out the door.  The rest of the class hugged their way out the door and I was left alone in my class, lights out, with just the warm afternoon sun shining through his classroom.  I went and sat down at my desk as tears fell to my cheeks, a voice startled me from the doorway, ‘you really do care, you weren’t faking.”

Danny had intentionally missed his bus expecting to come back and find his teacher happily preparing for summer break, but that is not what he found.  Danny realized on the last day of school that his teacher really had cared for him the past nine months.

In a world of fakes, his teacher was true!  What can we do to make sure our students know we are true long before the last day of school?  How can each of us carry out the attribute of being true in our daily environment (classroom, hallways, meetings, cafeteria, office, etc.)?
