RESTORE ME
April 21, 2021

Prayer: Lord, we praise you. Renew us this day with Your joy, peace, and purpose. Amen.

Scripture: The Lord is my Shepherd…He makes me lie down in green pastures…He restores my soul. Psalm 23:1-3

Not even a soak in a tub with Calgon Bubble Bath as the old TV commercial once promised could “take me away” on a day like this. A warm bath might help to ease the pain in my legs, feet and back, but did little to take off the pressure during these long days of mid-spring semester. Everyone seemed on edge at school, tired of the routine, preoccupied with just getting the job done. Even the principal, who usually loves fun in learning, retreated into her office in a kind of gray mood.

Besides considering all the natural means of helping myself recover: a shopping spree, a night out with friends (both difficult in time of pandemic), a long, quiet weekend, even a full night’s sleep (which I wasn’t getting), I knew that there had to be a better way to survive. It was then that the Lord showed me clearly, that I needed to look to Him instead of every other place. I read the words, “HE restores my soul.” Clearly He often uses common things to do His work, but He is the Source we should go to Him first.

If you suffer from  burn-out, remember Whose you are and Whom you serve. It is He who has called you, and He will sustain you and restore you. Let His wonderful power so energize you that everything you do at school bears the imprint of His freshness and new life. Let His presence “take you away” from all that burdens you, so that you can be fully restored and ready for service to Him.

Thank you so much for these daily devotionals! God’s Spirit greatly encourages me through the scripture and the author’s words. I have especially liked the focus this week on Psalm 23! My mom taught me this Psalm over 40 years ago, have had it memorized for years, in the process of doing a Bible study on Psalm 23 by Jennifer Rothschild, and have a wall hanging in my dining room with the words “He restores my soul”. I really appreciate how this organization supports Christian teachers! Thank you!

Wow, I really needed that. As the school year winds down the feeling of monotony sets in a even the kids are tired. What a refreshing way to start my day. Thank you for your message!!!
