SHEPHERD OF YOUR CLASSROOM
August 09, 2021

Prayer: Oh Lord, You have given us a big job to do here and we need Your big help today. Thank You for shepherding us and leading us even as we, by Your grace, shepherd our students. Amen.

Scripture: Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care. I Peter 5:2-4

A new school year, new bulletin boards, new supplies, new room arrangements, and a new flock. That’s right, a new flock of students to shepherd. Think about some of the references in the Bible about shepherding: Jer. 3:15, “Then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding.” Shepherds keep watch over their flocks, keeping them safe, taking care of their needs, guiding them.

Read the parable of the Lost Sheep in Matthew 18:10-14. Verse 14 says, “In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost.”  Keep watch for wandering and “lost sheep.” You may need to go find them and bring them back to the fold. Jesus was the great Shepherd (John 10:14).

What actions can we follow from His example?

If you are in a teachers’ prayer group, it is also a flock. How will you watch over each other making sure that you stay together and that no one feels unimportant, left out, or vulnerable to the “wolves?”

How can each of us carry out the attribute of being a shepherd in our daily environment (classroom, hallways, online, meetings, cafeteria, office, etc?)
