Prayer: We ask You, Lord, to speak to us today. Please, lead us to the doors You are opening. We thank You for the doors you close. Amen

Scripture: You have taught children and infants to tell of Your strength, silencing Your enemies and all who oppose You. Psalm 8:2 NLT

Children do so well at repeating what they have heard and with such authority! One day in a music class, I was teaching the spiritual “Who Built the Ark?” It contained the musical element we were studying that day, so I felt perfectly comfortable teaching it. As I always do when I can, I talked about the meaning of the words. I asked the children (second graders) to tell me about what an ark is, who Noah was, etc. One little girl fairly burst at the seams to tell me what she knew. She ended the long, correctly detailed story with the statement, “And God closed the door.” She paused, and then in a louder voice, “Did you know that when God closes a door, no man can open it, and when He opens a door, no man can shut it?!”

How did seven year old Charlotta know that I was struggling with a decision that I thought rested on human wisdom? She reminded me that God is sovereign in all of our decisions, and that we cannot thwart His purposes with our finite minds when we have asked Him to guide us. Don’t discount what children can teach you. Sometimes God uses their raspy little voices to speak His truth!

Thank you for this one! I recently bid on a different teaching position and didn’t get it. I really felt frustrated because my current work environment is so toxic. But I am trusting that God still has a purpose for me at the school. He closed that door because He knows the full picture, and I will choose to trust Him more than myself. 🙂

Another proof of why we need to continue to teach and lead our young boys and girls as along the way we will learn as well.
Thanks for your continued presentation of live stories that tell of God’s love within our classrooms.
